Yes — the early-access release is free and unrestricted. No watermark, no time limit, no feature held back. Paid tiers are a much later problem, and anything described on the site today stays in the free app.

You do not, to start. After a few exports Clipio asks you to create a free account — that is how we stay in touch with early users about fixes and releases, and it is what your Google Drive connection hangs off. It costs nothing and takes a Google sign-in or an e-mail address.

Some things will eventually sit behind a paid tier — the team-shaped features that cost us money to run. The recording, editing and export you use today is not the plan for that, and early-access accounts are dated, which is the whole reason we record the date.

The desktop app never handles your password. Signing in opens clipio.net in your browser, you authenticate there, and the app receives a token back. That is also why the Google option works without Clipio ever seeing your Google credentials.

Only when you press Share. Recording, editing, OCR, sensitive-info detection, captions and export all run on your machine. The one network path for your content is the Google Drive share, and it uploads a single file that you explicitly chose.

Only the files it creates. The connection asks for the drive.file scope, which means Clipio can see and manage its own uploads in the “Clipio Shared” folder and is blind to everything else in your Drive. Disconnect at any time from Settings → Integrations.

Anyone who has it. A shared file is set to “anyone with the link can view” in your own Drive, and it stays that way until you change it — from Drive itself, since Clipio has no per-file revoke screen yet. Treat a Clipio share link the way you would treat any unlisted link.

Four categories, each of which you can switch off independently: e-mail addresses, API keys, credit-card numbers and password fields. On-device OCR reads the capture, and matches are pixelated before the shot reaches you. It is a safety net, not a guarantee — check the result before you send anything that matters.

Your account row: e-mail address, name if you gave one, sign-in method, and the dates. Bug reports you submit carry your app version, OS and hardware so we can reproduce the problem. We never receive your recordings, screenshots or captions.

Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, or a recent macOS on Apple silicon or Intel. Multi-monitor and mixed-DPI setups are supported on both. Captions need a one-time model download the first time you turn them on.

The same app from the same codebase — the editor, the effects and the export path are shared. Only the capture layer differs: AVFoundation on macOS, DXGI on Windows. The Mac build is newer, so it ships marked beta while we work through real-hardware reports.

Screen Recording to capture the display, Microphone and Camera if you use them, and Accessibility so global hotkeys work from other apps. Clipio links straight to the right System Settings pane rather than leaving you to find it.

Not today. The capture layer is written to dispatch per platform, so it is not architecturally out of reach — but nothing is in progress.

Everything stays editable. Zoom keyframes, tracking layers, cursor settings, annotations, captions and background styling all live on the timeline, and an old recording reopens from the library with its effects intact.

It watches your clicks and where the cursor lingers, and eases in on that region. Every zoom it creates is a normal keyframe on the timeline — drag it, resize it, retime it or delete it. It is a first draft, not a decision made for you.

A zoom is an event: push in, hold, come back out. A Tracking layer is a duration — while it runs, the frame follows your pointer, which reads as a slow pan across a wide app rather than a cut. You can use both on the same clip.

Yes, and that is the point of it. The same ten tools work on the live screen mid-recording, so you circle the button in the same second you say “click here”. Every stroke stays editable after you stop.

Full screen, a single window or any region you drag — and the same three pickers offer Record GIF next to Record, so a loop starts from exactly the same place a video does.

MP4 (H.264) and WebM (VP9) at 720p, 1080p or 2K, plus GIF through a palette-optimised pass. Export is FFmpeg underneath, so the files play everywhere without a conversion step.
